Today is Jazz Appreciation Day
April is jazz appreciation month.
Furthermore, today is officially jazz appreciation day.
Jazz music has influenced almost every genre in American music.
So today is a good day to listen to some jazz standards like Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong or Wynton Marsalis.
I am personally more of a contemporary jazz (or as a friend of mine calls it “sophisticated” music) type. I recommend a listen to Jeff Kashiwa, Boney James, Peter White, Bernie Williams (yes…he is the retired Yankee center fielder), Chris Botti, or even the late Wayman Tisdale.
if you want something with a heavier beat, you can go retro and listen to some the great R&B groups of the 1970s. For example, Earth, Wind, and Fire or Kool and the Gang are great choices. Or sample group who created a unique blend of jazz, funk, and fusion to make some great music that left an impression on mainstream pop in the 1980s…Level 42 (highly recommended).
If you think of any other recommendations…please list them in response.
In any event, today is a great day to chill to some great jazz music.
Enjoy!!!
