#reverb10: On Future Self
The prompt for today comes from Jenny Blake, the author of Life After College: The Complete Guide to Getting What You Want. December 21 Future Self Imagine yourself five years from now. What advice would you give your current self for the year ahead? (Bonus: Write a note to yourself 10 years ago. What would you tell your younger self?) Wow…this may be one of the biggest challenges...

#reverb10: On Trying
The prompt for this Saturday is from Kaileen Elise. Today’s theme is trying. December 18 Try What do you want to try next year? Is there something you wanted to try in 2010? What happened when you did / didn’t go for it? Ironic that a blog ends up being the place of confession for me tonight. One of the things that I really committed to try to do this year was to read and write on a...

#reverb10: On Lessons Learned
Today’s prompt came from Tara Weaver… December 17 Lessons Learned What was the best thing you learned about yourself this past year? And how will you apply that lesson going forward? Wow…this year, that is actually a difficult question. I would say that the overall lesson that I learned this year that is bringing about all of this change in my thinking is, that it is...

#reverb10: On Friendship
Today’s prompt came from Martha Mihalick. December 16 Friendship How has a friend changed you or your perspective on the world this year? Was this change gradual, or a sudden burst? I have had many things change my perspective on the world this year…both good and bad. My friends have been a huge influence on that change in thinking. When I was younger, friendship for me was...

#reverb10: Five Minutes
A thoughtful topic for the day from Patti Digh. December 15 5 Minutes Imagine you will completely lose your memory of 2010 in five minutes. Set an alarm for five minutes and capture the things you most want to remember about 2010. Simply put, 2010 was a very difficult year for me personally.  So I would probably overall, just let it go and say, “good riddance”. That being said,...

Great stuff…thanks Patrick for sharing. practicalopacity: Herein lies an interesting filter through which to pass every status update/post/tweet/submission: “If I was sitting and having coffee with these friends right now, would we actually bother talking about this? Does it matter?” If it doesn’t matter enough to warrant thoughtful, reflective conversation, then what value does it hold,...

#reverb10: On Letting Go
The prompt for Sunday 5 December was issued by Alice Bradley December 5 – Let Go. What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why? Interesting thought. Thanks to some great writing from many of my friends this year, I have started to embrace simplicity. Obviously, I was not alone in that line of thinking. Many great minds were having the same kinds of thoughts. What exactly did that mean...

#reverb10: Wonder
I am really behind on this. Thanks to general stuff happening and the now infamous Tumblr crash this weekend…I am in catch up mode and hope to be in sync with everyone else by this weekend. Jeffery Davis provides the prompt for this post. December 4 – Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year? At my age, a sense of wonder is not necessarily something I...

#reverb10: Moment
After being invited by my partner in crime, Michael Ramm, I have joined the parade of bloggers and writers participating in this year’s Reverb10 event. Reverb10 is a month long writing event in which writers “reflect on [their] year and manifest what’s next.” The organizers and selected authors send out prompts or topics for everyone to write and reflect on. Ali Edwards presents...

@Waiting For...
One thing I think is a great way to track an open loop, is to carbon copy yourself on an email where you are requesting support on an action item. This puts a copy in your inbox to pull into an @Waiting For folder for tracking, and does not remove it from your sent items. If you do not have a system for tracking an open loop you are waiting on from someone else, give it a try. J

Just spoke while waiting for my lunch to a young soldier. There are about 100 or so here on a short leave from the local base. If you are given an opportunity over this holiday weekend, take advantage of it, and thank a soldier for their willingness to serve our great nation. Never forget…freedom is not free. Jason

Yes…I am catching up on some reading. This is a great write up linked by Patrick over at Minimal Mac. minimalmac: …it may be time to pull yourself away from Twitter and Gizmodo and get some perspective. Rude Awakening
Nothing like waking up to find the police at a neighbor’s house. Their home had been vandalized. Nasty words painted on the door. Paint splattered on the driveway. Paint sprayed all over the shrubs. Obviously makes you wonder who would do such a thing…and why.

Today is Jazz Appreciation Day
April is jazz appreciation month. Furthermore, today is officially jazz appreciation day. Jazz music has influenced almost every genre in American music. So today is a good day to listen to some jazz standards like Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong or Wynton Marsalis. I am personally more of a contemporary jazz (or as a friend of mine calls it “sophisticated” music) type. I recommend...
